Cookbook Collection on Display at UTSA Downtown Campus Library

In conjunction with the upcoming 8th Interdisciplinary and Multicultural Conference on Food Representation in Literature, Film, and the Arts, sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, an exhibition is on display at the UTSA Downtown Campus Library that highlights materials from the Mexican Cookbook Collection.

Stop by anytime the library is open to see 19th century classics, including the first cookbook published in Mexico, El Cocinero Mexicano (1831); regional cookbooks like Manual de Cocina Yucateca (1926) and La Exquisita Cocina de Campeche (1939); corporate cookbooks from corn starch company Maizena and Mexico City newspaper Excelsior; and examples of handwritten recipe books from the early 20th century.

The conference will be held at UTSA’s Downtown Campus Feb. 27th – March 1st, 2014. For more information, including speakers, see the conference program.
